Big of you

John: Kevin! I just bought a pizza for you.
Kevin: Thanks dude! That’s really big of you.

  • “That’s really big of you” in this situation means “You’re really so kind”, correct?

Thanks very much to friends!

Yes, it is. But a word like ‘kind’ doesn’t fit a situation where people call each other ‘dude’

‘Big’ in this context seems to refer to generosity rather than kindness, although the two qualities often go together.

I wonder if the adjective derives from the phrase ‘big spender’.

PS: Hadn’t seen your answer, Ralf!
