I know that stative verbs don’t have the ING-FORM.
But what about the verb to believe?
I’ve recently found it in the ING- form and up until now I’ve thought that it was a state verb:
e.g. My mind was closing
Now I’m believing
It shouldn’t be ’ I believe’?Could someone explain it to me?
I believe you liked Nickelback’s song I’d Come For You
By the way, I like Nickleback, so I will write few words.
Chad Kroege sings in this song:
I was blindfolded, but now I’m seeing
My mind was closing, now I’m believing
Of course, “I believe” is the correct form of this verb. However, many song writers use the incorrect forms of verbs (sometimes the use also incorrect adjectives!) in order to make they songs flow
As you can see, “I’m seeing” forms a rhyme with “I’m believing”. How would it sound if he sang “I believe”?
Cheers,
Michal
Oh, I got it now!And yes it’s from Nickelback’s song ‘I’d come for you’( I really love this band and mostly all their songs)!
As you can see, Nickleback are not ‘grammatically-correct’ but their music is just fine!
Mister Micawber,
Are these sentences grammatically wrong?
- I was blindfolded, but now I’m seeing.
- My mind was closing, now I’m believing.
I want to hear it from a learned man such as you.
Thanks.
Mister Micawber,
I expect your kind reply.
Hi there,
I’ve never heard of ‘believing’. Let me give you an example. 'You told me your facts of what had happened, but I noticed immediately that you withheld certain things from me. Now that you have told everything, also the things you withheld from me, I believe you.
Alexandro
Mister Micawber,
I expect your kind reply.
