    right answer given > pounded…why not slapped ?

‘Slap’ would usually describe a striking movement with the hand open as in ‘slap someone in the face’ to show your great anger.

You can also slap something (like dollar bills) down on the table as in this passage of ‘Bullet the blue sky’…:

This guy comes up to me
His face red like a rose on a thorn bush
Like all the colours of a royal flush
And he’s peeling off those dollar bills
Slapping them down
One hundred, two hundred

The father was furious and pounded the table. Pounded means seriously injured or defeated. For.Ex.If a person or team gets a pounding, they are severely defeated or injured. Slapped can be used when the person is not injured by his action.
