Dear to whom may it concern,
Would you please tell me is there any different words between barber who works for men and women? In the Oxford dictionary barber is a person who cuts men’s hair. What about women?

Generally I think in common usage, “barber” is a man who cuts men’s hair and maybe also offers shaving etc., whereas a “hairdresser” is a more neutral word - a man or woman who cuts men or women’s hair.
Dear Thredder,
Thank you very much indeed. Here a bunch of flower for you!

Men definitely don’t go to hairdressers. Those are for women.
Maybe in Detroit, but in the real world it’s not so clear cut
… Ok, maybe that’s not fair, in the US it seems to be a bit stricter, on gender lines.
However, a quick Google search reveals:
“According to Longman Dictionary, a hairdresser is a person who cuts, washes, and arranges people’s hair in particular styles.
According to the same dictionary, a barber is a man whose job is to cut men’s hair and sometimes to shave them.
So, the difference between both words is that a barber is always a a male whereas a hairdresser could be both male and female.”
“Barbers are individuals whose occupation is to cut hair, give shaves, and trim beards. Some barbers prefer to refer to themselves as Hairdressers or Hair Stylists. For the most part, all three terms are synonymous, although there is a general connotation associated with the term “barber” that denotes working on male clients only and doing so in a no-frills manner, as compared to “hairstylists”, who are commonly thought of as focusing more heavily on hair coloring, perms, styling, and texturing for both males and females.”
And there are plenty of "men’s hairdressers’ all over the place.
In the US, a barber could be male or female. It’s just a person who gives no-frills men’s haircuts, regardless of gender.
I have seen “men’s hairstylists” but never “men’s hairdressers”, since hairdressers tend to do lots more than style hair, mostly services for women. However, in recent decades I don’t even see “men’s hairstylists” anymore, because fashions have changed and men now tend to go to barbers for no-frills haircuts.
In the UK, a barber is definitely for men only.
