Band as a journal or monography?

Hi,

Please could you tell me if “Band” is synonym of “journal” or “monography” in the following sentence? I’m confused with this word as “das Band” generally means “volume”.

International übliche Zitierweisen werden im Band nicht praktiziert.

Without further context I would say it means ‘volume’ or just ‘book’.
