awkward and weird are synonym?

Hi,

I’m wondering if these two words awkward and weird are synonym which means strange or unusual ? And I’m not sure if awkward might sound rude…? Please explain in detail these two words for me. Thank you.
If I say : “This sentence sounds awkward” and “This sentence sounds weird” Do English-native speakers here the same meaning?

You mean to ask if we hear differences.

They are related, but I don’t think they are all-purpose synonyms. “Awkward” usually means clumsy when we use it to describe language, so I would not use “weird” in that sentence.

I personally find “the fact that” awkward, but I certainly don’t find it weird. “Weird” means odd and unusual.
