I read that ‘awareness of’ and ‘awareness about’ are both correct. However, Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries state that ‘awareness (of something)’ is the only acceptable option. What’s true?

It is also possible to say ‘awareness about’, but ‘awareness of’ is much more commonly used.
In my opinion, if you do use ‘awareness about’, that phrase would suggest a somewhat more detailed understanding or knowledge about something rather than the simple knowledge that something exists.
