Are these sentences correct:

1-Pete is as much a detective as John is.
[color=indigo]2-Pete is as much a detective as John.

[color=red]
3-Pete is as much of a detective as John is.
[color=indigo]4-Pete is as much of a detective as John.

I suppose they are all possible, though I would only use the second versions.
