As a doctor vs. like a doctor?

Hello Alan ! Explain please what is proper and why?
He used to work [color=orange]as a doctor.

He used to work [color=orange]like a doctor.
thank you

As a doctor means: that was his job - he was employed as a doctor. Like a doctor means: the way in which he worked was the sort of behaviour you would expect from a doctor. It means in the style of/manner of a doctor.

Many thanks Alan

He used to work like a doctor? What did he do?

let us say that his job is nurse or a Soldier.so as Mr Alan says the sort of behavior looks like a doctor

  1. He is working as a doctor in a private nursing home.
  2. He is employed as a doctor in government hospital.
Are these two sentences OK and meaningful?

Sentence 1 is okay,
Sentence 2 requires an article:
… in a government hospital.

My point was that what did that person really do so that he could act like a doctor.

My point was that what did that person really do so that he could act like a doctor.

He could have done anything, but his manner/style in doing it would have been the type expected of a doctor.
Example:
He was so careful not to get any dirt on the components. He used to work like a doctor, always washing his hands.

Yes I see. Thank you.
