Hello!
I have the sentence 'A group of workers were sitting at the edge of …cornfield where they were having lunch.
Which article should I use in the gap: '‘a’ or ‘the’?
Thank you for your time!

Both are possible. It depends on whether you are speaking about a specific cornfield (for example, if you were describing a picture) (use ‘the’) or if it is a non-specific cornfield (for example, if you were starting a story.)(use ‘a’)

Often ‘a cornfield’ on first mention will go on to become ‘the cornfield’ once it has been introduced…

A group of workers were sitting at the edge of a cornfield where they were having lunch. One of the workers stood up and looked across the cornfield.

Just outside a small village was a cornfield which by the end of each summer was filled with row upon row of ripe, golden corn. It was at such a time of year that the following incident took place. A group of workers were sitting at the edge of the cornfield where they were having lunch. One of the workers stood up and looked across the cornfield.
