Arrange or arrange for how to distinguish

Hi Lawrence,
Good to hear from you. I could use a popular Adult Education course to illustrate the difference - flower arranging. There is quite an art in this used for special events like weddings and festivals. So, my example is -

Doris usually arranges the flowers. In the church for the Sunday services but she was ill last week and the Vicar had to arrange for another church member to do it instead.

As you say , ‘arrange’ + direct object simply means to put in a certain order. ‘Arrange for’ indicates an intermediary does the arranging, someone else is involved in the action. Hope that helps.
