Arabic Lyrics Help

I’ve got an Amr Diab CD (Egyptian pop star), and I’ve gotten used to hearing a few words/phrases… like:

ya

la (lah)

sadekny khalas

ya habiby la

habiby

ahabek

baed ellayaly

wala ala baloh

aktar wahed

wala

etc.

Is there an Arabic speaker here who can fill me in on these words/phrases?

Thanks so much,

Tom

Hey, Tom. What’s with the Arabic music? Did some Arab girl tickle your fancy lately?

By the way, I think “Ya Lah” is the short form of “Ya Allah” (Oh God) and I know “Ya habibi” means “my lover”.

Oh, good luck with your pursuit!

Nina, thanks – my sister taught in Cairo for a year. The CD was a souvenir.

Tom,

Did you listen to Khaled’s Didi. It was a big hit some 15 years ago.

BTW, what do you mean by “Billie Jean is not my lover”?

I haven’t knowingly listened to/heard Khaled’s Didi.

“Billie Jean is not my lover” is a line from Michael Jackson’s early-'80s hit song “Billie Jean”.

He seems pretty weird (if not dangerous) now, but back in the '80s he was the shiznit, with mega-huge multi-platinum albums Thriller and Bad.

In third grade, my favorite album was “Thriller”. It was comprised of tunes like:

Thriller
Billie Jean
Beat It
The Girl Is Mine (with Paul McCartney)
PYT
Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’
Human Nature

(all top-10 hits)

It could be argued that Thriller was one of the top five popular albums of the 1980s, and that Bad was one of the top 20 or so.

Here’s the Wiki link to the Thriller album page. On this site there are also links to the hit songs:

la means no. wala al baloh may mean not yet. sadekny means our friend and khalas means liberation which makes no sense. ihebka means i love you. aktar wahed means something alone.

i wish that i helped you…

Hi Tom,

I’m from egypt and I love Amr Diab.

la (lah) : no

sadekny khalas : believe me please

ya habiby la :my baby no.

habiby: my lover or my baby.

ahabek:I love you.

baed ellayaly:after the nights or count the days.

habiby wala ala baloh: my lover don’t know or don’t care

akter wahed byhebak: I’m the most person who love you.

Regards,
Coconut.

Wouldn’t the last one mean the only or the one who loves you?? I understand arabic, modern standard anyway, but what messes me up is how different spoken arabic can be.

Hi,
Yes,you are right the last one mean the only one who loves you.
But I don’t understand your question?
let me guess are you ask about how can people learn Arabic?or you ask about Arabic Language how can each country speak it by different ways?
I hope that I got your question.

Hello Coconut,

I cannot say much but it could be fit into all those minus one songs that I listen when I study or work. Generally, I think it’s nice.

And welcome to English-test.net!

Coconut, Aryam, Tarjeem

Thanks a ton for translating those words/phrases.

Nina,

How’s life?

Bumpy, but that’s part and parcel of life.

Hello everybody, I am Hussein from Jordan, I am a captain of ship, and I am married, I am very outgoing, kind-hearted and have a good sense of humor. I have a lot of integrity and believe that honesty is the best policy…I am a man of my word. I believe that
if you treat people well, you will be treated well in return. In other words…you reap what you sow. Friends are
important to me and I enjoy spending time with them. The long and the short of it is it really doesn’t matter where you go…it’s the company you’re with that makes it fun. As long as you can laugh, then all is well.

best regards
captain Hussein
