Any difference between laptop and notebook?

Ha, this is another of those questions I’ve always wanted to ask and never have gotten around to: What is the difference between a laptop and a notebook? To me, it seems that those are just two different words for the same thing. I also have the feeling that notebook has been more often used lately. What are your observations on this?

I think a laptop computer and a notebook computer are both the same thing. In the US, it seems to me that laptop is the more popular word, because if you call it a notebook in some situations, people might think you mean a real notebook. There’s no such confusion with laptop.
