And err ... 5 feet 10 inches tall

:blossom: In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. :blossom:

Hi!

Doctor: All right, step off and I’ll tell you your measurements.
Man: Aha.
Doctor: You weigh 162 pounds, and err… 5 feet 10 inches tall. ←
Man: Great.
Doctor: Good. Come back over here and I’ll continue the examination.

What does “err” mean here?

Does it mean “If I don’t mistake” or “If I’m not mistaken” or something else?

Thank you.

It’s an interjection and doesn’t have any meaning. It’s similar to sounds like:

Um
Err
Hmmm

I wonder if “err” is Canadian for “uh”.

Time for a Canadian joke.

How does a Canadian spell the name of their country?
C eh N eh D eh

Now I’m curious how many people here actually get it. (It’s better when spoken.)

I just re-listened to this, and I believe he is actually saying “and are … 5 feet 10 inches tall.”
The subject of this second part is “you” so it means “you are 5 feet 10 inches tall.”
The ellipsis […] signifies his pause after “are”. It sounds like he is pausing as he completes the height measurement.

And yes, I get the joke, eh.

Yea, it sounds like he says “are”. I didn’t listen to the audio the first time. I just went by the transcript.
