Analysing language - problem defining meaning.

i was asked to define this sentence’s meaning ‘I was looking in the paper when I saw a job’ and so i put ‘I was reading through the newspaper and I saw a job i was interested in’ the teacher while telling me that it is no incorrect said she wouldn’t accept my answer.

To show u a correct example

‘I used to swim’

An action or state that happened regularly in the past but doesn’t happen now.

Would that mean if i said …i was doing something when i was interrupted by a specific thing be correct?

.
I see nothing whatsoever wrong with your initial answer.

Indeed, a main use of the past progressive is to indicate an action which continued during which another action occurred-- and that is the appropriate structure of both the teacher’s sentence and your answer.

I don’t understand what ‘used to’ has to do with this topic.
