An awkward Sentence

Hi all,
again another awkward sentence that I can understand. Could someone tell me what this sentence mean?

no gain is too slight to bother with.

Swan

Since there’s no context, I would improvise:
‘Gain’ could mean ‘advance\progress\increase’. ‘No gain’ (= zero shift from any given point) being slight makes the whole costruction a bit non-sensical to me.
The only possible way to explain it would be describing a patient\baby not gaining any weight following their illness. Even then I would make it “No gain (period) is too short to bother with” for it to make sense.

Hi and thanks a lot for your answers. This is a part of an article with this title Australian’s Sporting Success here:

Paraghraph C near the end of line 3.

I think Canadian45 is correct but anyway thank you so much guys.

Now I’ve read the passage, the sentence sounds like, “No improvement is a trifle not worth bothering about, just don’t quit.” It reads well in the context, still to my taste, is not the one you would use liberally.
