'Allo 'Allo. I have troube understanding Herr Flick

'Allo 'Allo is a British sitcom but, I always have trouble understanding Herr Flick. Here’s the dialogue:

  • Von Smallhausen: ’ Herr Flick, let’s hide under the bed.’
  • Herr Flick: ‘No, Von Smallhausen, that’s the first place they will look.

Is the phrase in bold correct?

What do you say?

@Arinker, @Anglophile, @Alan, @NearlyNapping, @Torsten.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, it’s fine.
Under the bed is a standard hiding place.

It’s not a phrase. It is a complex sentence, Marc. And it is correct too.

Arinker, don’t get cute with me. It was a very, very serious question. :grinning:

Especially for you. More fun.

I remember that show. I didn’t watch it much. I forget the name at the moment, but I watched the one in the cafe a lot more. I think we talked about that show on here before.

His name was René.

Oooh, I was confused. The clip you posted didn’t show inside the cafe. But it was the same show I was thinking of.

Never mind, Dan, this can happen to anyone. His name was René and his wife was called Edith. I’ll post another video. Tonight I’m going to watch ‘Escape from Alcatraz’ with Clint Eastwood. I watched it years ago when I was still a child - I believe I was 9 years old - and I didn’t understand much of it. But it is based on a true story.
