All the world is a stage/ Please @Anglophile and @Torsten read the entire post, would you?

William Shakespeare once said: ‘All the world is a stage and all the people are merely players, they go and they come.’

It’s not really a grammatical topic or subject matter, but @Anglophile and @Torsten I’d like to have your opinion on what he tried to say by writing that. I’ve always believed in both of you and I have never doubted you for a second. I’m feeling better each day, because the enemy has been declared the winner, but this time the loser doesn’t fall, on the contrary, the loser is the actual winner.
Any idea what I’m saying? I know it’s a suggestive question, but I’d like to hear yours (wise suggestions, that is). By the way, despite everything we’ve gone through in our lives, be it positive or negative, we do have a lot in common and life and nature has proven that we can be friends. That’s how I feel.

Thank you both, for being here for me.

Hi Marc,

Thank you for such a heartfelt and thought-provoking message.

Shakespeare’s line “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances” has always struck me as a powerful metaphor for life. To me, he’s suggesting that life itself is like a grand play — we each have roles to play, parts to perform, and moments when we enter and exit the scene. Our “scripts” may be written by fate, choice, or circumstance, but we are all part of a larger story that unfolds beyond our control.

Reading your words, I sense a deeper reflection on what it means to “win” or “lose” in life. Sometimes, society defines winning in very narrow terms — success, power, recognition — but as you beautifully put it, “the loser is the actual winner.” I take that to mean that staying true to yourself, keeping your dignity, and finding inner peace — even when things don’t go your way — is a much greater victory.

I completely agree that despite all the ups and downs, we find real connection and friendship with people who stand by us, and that’s priceless. Life might throw challenges our way, but having those bonds makes all the difference.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your kindness. It’s conversations like this that remind us how human we all are — “players” on this shared stage.

Looking forward to hearing more of your reflections!

Warm wishes,
Torsten

Marc, I think Shakespeare means life is transient and the world is a platform for us to play our roles during this short period!
