In my country doesn’t have sea, but when I read the essay I felt like I am the king. And fishing along withe the ocean that has never done before. Catching big fishes and than grill and serve with heniken beer is out of the world.
It is very good essay to remind me think of the wonderful past.

I’m gonna define about those secluded words, not phrases.
As I know. Defination of “Ocean” is larger and more abstract than “Sea”. “Sea” is knew like some secluded beaches, places, place fill with salt water… And “Ocean” means all salt water of earth. Most of earth includes salt water, more simply, 75% is “Ocean”. Thanks a lot your sharing, guys!

very interesting essay. I am Polish and the only thing which came across my mind according with that idiom is ‘sea of people’ . that means loads of people especiall gathered in same place.
“an ocean of tears” , “a sea of tears”, “a sea of people”
These are some expressions that crossed my mind when I read this topic. I translated them from Romanian. We use them often.
Can we find them in other languages? In English?

“to ask for the sea and its salt” – to ask for the impossible;
“to promise the sea and its salt” – to promise (to work) wonders;
“to try the sea with one’s finger” – to try to do something although you are aware you have almost no chances of success.
All in an approximate translation, of course. 
…and three more Romanian sayings:
“With patience you cross the sea”.
“Not even the whole sea can wash away your sins”
“Measure the sea with the finger.”
I have a similar problem, I find it difficult to comprehend if something is said fast, like most British and Americans do.

For example: When something is not so good we can say: “This is not a sea of flowers.” And about the first expression that you use in the text “be at the sea”, here we used to say: “boiando”. In this case we don’t use the word sea but the expression has the same meaning, because literally if somebody is “boiando” this person is just above the big amount of water.
