Hi Saneta,
They both introduce what happens next. ‘Then’ is often used when talking of a succession’ of events or happenings. ‘Afterwards’ is most often used when you introduce something important or a completely different event.
‘Allow’ follows this pattern: allow + object + infinitive. It is not used with the gerund.

hi Mr Alan,
but what about sentence:
they don’t allow smoking in the auditorium.
many thanks for the whole help
Hi,
Good point. Thanks, Saneta.
Alan.
so it couldn’t be:
they don’t allow to smoke in the auditorium?
is it difficult to say why there is gerund? the difference between infinitive and gerund after allow?
thanks
Hi, Saneta
Some verbs like permit, allow… it can be used with gerund or to-infinitive without changing the meaning.
