"Addict to" vs "Addict of"

Could you please tell me which one is better?

1- He soon became addict to heroin.
2- He soon became addict of heroin.

Firstly edit your sentences a little bit:

  1. He soon became addicted to heroin
  2. He soon became an addict of heroin.

The first sentence is emphasising the process and the second the substance.
So in no 2 he is addicted to heroin not speed or coke.
