Achieve a medical milestone?

Hi, I’ve just heard this phrase on CNN: … they achieved a medical milestone. So, is achieve a milestone a common collocation?
Thank you
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

You asked:

Yes, it’s an acceptable expression. I think I have probably heard it used as reached a medical milestone giving the idea of having made progress to a new stage. Then again you hear achieved a medical breakthrough so in a way it’s a mixture of the two.
