Hi,
“I visited my aunt last summer”. Could I also say “I went to visit my aunt last summer”? If the answer is yes, the two forms have the same meaning?
Thank you so much. Take care.

I think both sentences are correct and mean the same thing.
I have a doubt on the meanings.
The first sentence confirms that I met my aunt. But the second sentence leaves a possiblity that I went there, but I was not able to meet her.
Am I correct?
You raise an interesting point there but I think that the use of the past (went) pretty well indicates that the visit took place last summer. It would be different of course if you used another time expression and a different tense such as: I was/am going to or indeed suggested a future sense.
Thank you Mr. Alan.
