Abbreviation: etc, et cetera, and other things, and so on.

When I asked this question long ago, I received only two answers. Those were discouraging. Now that more than five years have elapsed, would there be any more comments as to the merit of the suggestion?

Mister Micawber seems to have summed it up and his replies still stand.

I wanted further comments. If you have none of your own, just watch. (It seems your hobby is to follow me. You are welcome!) Domine, quo vadis!

I gave you comments. I agree with Mister Micawber and saw no reason to reinvent the wheel.

I follow all the threads. It seems your hobby is to try to find things to be negative about.

I provided other readers to the link of the original thread, which saves them reinventing the wheel too.
Ask yourself two questions:
Why are you so offended by me doing so?
Would you be so offended if someone else did so?

Now, please can we move on before this thread is also dragged into the depths of despair?

  1. I don’t feel offended. I’m used to it now. I only wonder why you are so concerned about the post not being allowed to be commented on by others.
  2. Let them speak. Wait patiently and see what they have to say. Why do you try to discourage them? Language is evolving, especially English.

It appears that you have yet another misconception.
What makes you think I am trying to discourage anyone? Where do you think I have indicated that others should not give their opinion?

What English is this? Learned people like Alan, James eta will have smiled at it.

Here I find that you are discouraging others.

You are right. I suppose it’s the English of someone who is increasingly harassed and edited the post rather quickly.
I did, of course, intend saying “I provided other readers with the link of the original thread,…”

I’m sure pointing that out has made you very happy. I hope that special glow doesn’t fade too soon.

You have a strange view with regard to what may be “discouraging” I must say. Particularly coming from someone who readily discourages learners by picking up on every single error they make.

So, you know how to admit your mistake when you are utterly wrong. Good; keep it up!

I have always known how to admit to mistakes, and I do so. This is nothing new that i should ‘keep up’. Yet another misconception on your part.

Know that you can also say: “I provided the link of the original thread to other readers, …”
