Hi, can the term ‘a cut above’ also be used with a positive connotation such as in this advertising slogan:… a ski area which is a cut above’? I always thought that ‘a cut above’ has a negative meaning only. Many thanks, Torsten

@Torsten. This is a common idiom “a cut above the rest”.

Out of interest there is a hairdressers where I live that calls itself ‘A Cut Above’, making a nice pun and suggesting it is a superior hatrdresser’s.
