a part of a tap / cock

Hello.
What do you call the part (see the image) of old taps / cocks used as a handle to open and close them?
The image is here:

Is it a knob?

I would call it the handle:

You have shown it pictorially, Luschen. I thought it could be called a knob because of its round-like shape.

handle on the old type as indicated.
knob for the newer modern designs.

Thank you for the answers.
@Beesneees: I’m not sure that I follow you. Here is a modern design valve:

What would you call the red part, a handle or a knob?

I can’t access that picture as my security software deems the site as a potential risk.

For me, if I had to refer to that part of the tap alone then I’d probably say:

knob

handle

lever

However, I wouldn’t use any of those descriptions in everyday conversation. I’d be more likely to say ‘I turned the tap on/off’.

Thank you very much, Bee!
