What do you call the part (see the image) of old taps / cocks used as a handle to open and close them?

Is it a knob?
I would call it the handle:

You have shown it pictorially, Luschen. I thought it could be called a knob because of its round-like shape.
handle on the old type as indicated.
knob for the newer modern designs.

I can’t access that picture as my security software deems the site as a potential risk.
For me, if I had to refer to that part of the tap alone then I’d probably say:
knob
handle
lever
However, I wouldn’t use any of those descriptions in everyday conversation. I’d be more likely to say ‘I turned the tap on/off’.
