a great experience vs. a wide experience

Hi, I’ve just come across the following question:

He has a … experience of marketing in Europe.
A. grand B. wide C. large D. great

In my opinion, neither ‘a wide experience’ nor ‘a great experience’ sound very good. Instead, I would say ‘a lot of experience’. However, how of the two options, which would you choose?

Many thanks,
Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

Hi Torsten,

I would go for ‘wide experience’ without the article. ‘A great eperience’ would refer to one particular event that someone has experienced.

Alan

Hi Alan,
I’d like to make sure that I can understand your “corrected” choice. Would “wide experience” mean something like profound knowledge or good understanding? Thank you for your help.

Yes M&L, that’s how I read Alan’s explanation.[YSaerTTEW443543]
