24 hours car park vs. 24 hour car park?

Hi, I used to think that compound nouns are made up of singular forms so it should be ‘a 24 hour car park’ rather than ‘a 24 hours car park’ or am I wrong? Many thanks, Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

You are not wrong! (The only trend is that hyphenation seems to be getting done away with). I think ‘24 hours’ car park’ will sound better.

As Anglophile reminded us, hyphens are being dropped whenever possible.

I did some googling and discovered that some Americans still use the hyphen.

In your phrase, I would prefer the hyphen and the singular.

I have made up this sentence:

“Our hotel offers a 24-hour parking lot staffed by two guards.”

Actually, I asked because I found the term ‘24 hours (plural) car park’ multiple times in English For Business LCCI exams.[YSaerTTEW443543]
