Since most English native speakers live in the US it’s fair to say that ‘make a decision’ is far more common than ‘take a decision’. I think this is something we should point out to ESL learners.[YSaerTTEW443543]
How about this: instead of worrying about make vs. take, simply use “decide” or “choose.” IMHO, you can make up your mind, or you can take a choice. I personally prefer to make a decision… proactive. If you “take” a choice, you’re not being proactive. Alternatively, you can just choose, or decide.
