You’re most welcome. I just wanted to tell you that you are so much active in the forums, Also I wish I could be like you in the way you write. I wonder how come you write so much? When it comes to me I feel so tired. And is English a primary language in your country? I hail from India and here not many people try to communicate in English that is the reason I lag behind compared to some other forum members.

I am very moved from your letter. I am sure that you are more younger than me. When I was young I was full of inhibition. To write a letter or a composition in the school it was very difficult for me. You asked that whether English is primary language in my country. Not at all. In my country there is a problem that the people don’t speak English. Once Alan wrote that he was in Hungary with his wife and they met very few people who spoke in English. Now I say an idiom to express the situation: since the young began to learn English we can say that the shoe is now on the other foot.
So I am an old woman , my memory is good, thanks to God, and it occurs to me something about everything. And I forgot to be inhibited. I say that if I say some stupidity what happens? Nothing. So I tell what it occurs to me, I tell my associations.What I write in my letters what happened with me in life. They are always true stories.
Even one thing I began to learn English 16 years ago when my daughter went to America with her family. She has two beautiful children, they are my grandchildren and they don’t speak in Hungarian. This urged me on to learn English for that I could speak to them. If they hadn’t gone to America I would never have spoken English.I spoke rather well in French and I loved it now I can read in French but I forgot to speak. When I want to say something in French i have to translate myself from English into French. Incredible that we could forget something what we knew.

Yes, we forget a foreign language if we don’t practice it or listen to it for a long period of time.
It happened to me too. I’ve learnt French in school for ten years (double than English) and I knew it very well, but when I visited Strasbourg last year, I always started saying things in French and ended in English - automatically!
So, let’s keep in touch with English! Otherwise, we will forget it

I try to find out what can be its reason because I can read fluently in French, I read everyday an article from Le Monde. I have problems to speak or write letters in French, the words come into my mind in English so I use a French-English very good on-line dictionary and really I am drafting my letter in English in my mind (last time it happened with me yesterday evening) and I translated the text into French.

This dictionary is always open in my laptop.
I am unable to speak two languages , my luck I didn’t forget the French Grammar. When I was at the collage we learnt that there is analogue inhibition in the brain. which can prevent from working two centres in the brain separately. I t happens when the centres are very near to each other and their task is similar (than two or more languages) and one keeps down/suppress/repress the other. Of course there is gift for languages whose this is no problem.It is good that I didn’t forget the French Grammar so I could write almost without mistake. Of course it takes me much more time than previously. But when I finish, it is a very good feeling.
Only one possibility would be to solve this problem that to live a few month in France. I am sure after two month I could speak fluently again in French.
You can do that. We decided with my husband that we never go to a foreign country. His health doesn’t make it possible, unfortunately.

know that I don’t like this analogue inhibition in the brain! It deranges my plans! Even if I have no plans for the moment 
Who knows where life will take me to?

I can’t stand this analogue inhibition in the brain me either! And chiefly when I know that there are people who can speak 16 languages. For instance a Hungarian woman, Kató Lomb who spoke 16 languages.

She is very famous among the interpreters and of course among the Hungarian people who try to learn languages. It is worth to read this link. I had read her first book: “How I Learned 16 Languages?” How? She was addicted to learning languages. She was an autodidact. Her saying: “Language is the only thing worth knowing even poorly”. Learning a new language was a love for her.
