why doesn't "recently" fit?

Hello, it’s me again.

Below is a question from an execrise book. The answer is D and I did it right. Though I am still not quite sure why “recently” doesn’t work. Would “recently” work if there were a comma following the bracket? (Duo to the poor weather, recently, few people…) Many thanks.

Due to the poor weather, ( ) few people showed up for the free concert that took place on the city grounds on the weekend.

A. recently B. normally C. entirely D. relatively

recently
at a time that was not long ago, or that started not long ago
He has recently been promoted to Assistant Manager.
a recently published biography
Jerry lived in Cairo until quite recently.
More recently, he’s appeared in a number of British films.

 • Recently doesn’t combine with “on the weekend”, in my view.

This would be the correct way of punctuating it:
Due to the poor weather recently, few people showed up for the free concert that took place on the city grounds on/at the weekend.

‘Recently’ can be paired with ‘at/on the weekend’ because the weather might have been poor before the weekend, so people might not turn up for the concert thinking that the same weather pattern will continue.

Thank you, Beees.
