When do we use 'is', 'are' and 'have'?

Dear Teachers,

I’ve got some questions to ask you:

  1. Five years " is " much too long for me.
  • Why don’t we use : " Are" ?
  1. The clerk and typist " has " been with this company for two years
  • Why don’t we use : " Have " ?
  1. I’m going to take a " two-year English course ".
  • Is this sentence right ?
  1. I don’t have any " sisters and brothers ".
  • Is this sentence right ?

Please help me and thanks a lot in advance.

Nam Steven.
