what is that word - sounds much like 'weening' - and close in meaning to 'servile

This has been bugging me for the last 30 minutes now. I think there is some word which, I suspect, sounds close to ‘weaning’ and close in meaning to ‘servile’ but couldn’t find it. Do you have any idea about the word? Please let me know. Thanks.
