We must uphold / put the object of worship

We must uphold/put the object of worship at the centre of our life.

Which is the correct verb?

Thanks.

I don’t think it is a good collocation. In my opinion, uphold would take objective and put would take object. Even then, put the object is not balanced. It could be put up (meaning erect or display). Further, at the centre of our life fails to make good sense. It may be in our life with objective and at the altar of our life (metaphorically) with object.

Accordingly, you have the following two sentences:

  1. We must uphold the objective of worship in our life.
  2. We must put up the object of worship at the altar of our life.

(I hope Alan and Torsten will agree to my modifications.)

As for me, I probably would phrase the idea as follows:

Worship should be the center of our lives.
