Use the words fail, succeed

Hi All,

When I use the word fail, I can say following:

I will try to do it but if I fail…

When I use the word succeed, I can say following:

I will try to do it but if I won’t succeed…
Should I append in doing so?

I ask this question because in my native language we use it in the following way: I will try to do it but if it won’t succeed me
Could I use this in English, too?

Hi,

Not necessarily. You could say: I will try but if I fail or I will try but if I don’t succeed and also add ‘in so doing’ to both.
