Use of the word "assure"

Many thanks if some of you will correct the following sentence:

“when learning is supported by a professor, you can rely on his experience and that’s important to ASSURE YOU that you are on the right way”

Hi,

I think perhaps instead of ‘assure’ I would put ‘convince’.

A

the word assure, in this case, is synonomous with promise, guarantee, give confidence.

many thanks!
