Use of "let go things"

Do we say- I tried to let things go or
I tried to let go things. ( ie to let a situation go)

Either
I tried to let things go
or
I tried to let go of things

(Depending on whether the emphasis is on the things or the fact that you are letting go.)

Hi,

Does that sound… like; I’ve tried to let things slide - or - to let things go smoothly?

or it holds other than than in the meaning?
What I know that ‘to let go’ means ‘to leave - or - to forget’.

Hi Puppet,

‘Let things go’ could, as you suggest mean: let standards drop, not worry too much about the way you live.

‘Let go’ means: release as in: They untied the boat from the bank and let it go/leave.

Alan

I caught them on. Thank you very much.
