Use of "GO"

Hello,
Please explain , why is the differencein the use of preposition
1) I go to school.
2) I go home.

why “go to” is not used in the second sentence. :o

.
#2 is exceptional, like here and there. There are 3 forms:

I go to the market / to the office / to the theatre.

I go to school / to church / to work.

I go home / here / there.
.

Thank you for this but it’s still too difficult for me. Why is not “I go to the school”? Is it just an exception?

.
I go to school = I am a student; I attend a school
I go to the school = I attend a specific or previously mentioned school.
.

Thanks for your reply Mr.Micawber.

But I could not understand your explanation. Is it according to any rule that home is not followed by the preposition " to" .

.
Yes. The rule is: ‘home’ is not preceded by ‘to’.

I was sent home.
I went home.
I came home.
I wrote home.

Again thankyou Mr. Micawber,

Can you please tell me other words which follow this rule.

.
Here and there are the only ones that come to mind. Perhaps another member will recall more.
.

Directions of the compass, e.g. go north.
go places

Can’t think of more at the moment.
