Usage of hands-on

I practiced a new software skill (let us say - skill-A) today by writing the code, and running the code, and analyzing the errors and fixing them.

Can I say to others, I got hands-on with skill-A today.

Thanks,
S

You can use the expression ‘hands-on’ in connection with ‘experience’ as in ‘I have hands-on experience in Python programming’ for example.

Thanks Torsten, for your help!

“Today, I have had hands-on experience in writing new methods of Java”
– I assume this is fine to say to others.

Thanks!

Just to add another expression in the same group - first hand. You use this to describe practical or direct experience with a particular subject. Someone who has first hand knowledge of a topic knows it very well through personal experience.

Nice to see you after a long time, as I could not understand where the English Test net forum was gone.
