under the sod

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I’ve herd the boys say that he would be under the sod that day six months. (Trollope’s “McDermott’s of Ballycloran”)

under the sod = in the grave

Thank you for your efforts

Yes. (‘heard’ not ‘herd’)

Hi Beeesneees,
