two in one

Hello, I have two questions in one sentence for you, can you help?

The church was built with/for/from/on the money which an anonymous person had donated/presented.

My first question is about the correct preposition(s) and second about the Past perfect tense - is it necessary or just possible, could it be also the Past simple?

Thank you very much

The correct preposition is ‘with’, ‘From’ may also be used.

From the sentence you have provided, it appears that the past perfect tense is required in this particular context. First a person donated the money, then the church was built, now the church is finished.

Hi Marionetta,

Grammar dictates that the sequence of first ‘donation’ and then ‘building’ would need the past perfect for the first action but logic indicates that since the money had to come first, the pst simple would be possible for both tenses.

Alan

  1. The church was built with the money which an anonymous person donated.
  2. The church was built with the money which an anonymous person had donated.
  3. An anonymous person had donated some money by which the church was built.
    Are they correct?

Beeesneees,
Could you please answer my queries?
