Tom agreed leaving the room.

Tom agreed leaving the room.
Is this sentence correct?

Hello,

Tom agreed TO LEAVE the room.

a. After some verbs (such as “agree”), you MUST use the infinitive.

b. After some verbs (such as “like”), you may use either the infintive or gerund:

I like TO EAT / EATING ice cream.

When you get time, you may wish to check the Web for websites that give you a list of verbs that require only the infinitive (such as “want”); that require only the gerund (such as “enjoy”); and that allow either the infintive or gerund (such as “try”).
