TOEFL: Has earth become a better place to live?

SOME SAY THAT HUMAN HAS MADE THE EARTH A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE, WHILE OTHERS BELIEVE THAT HE HAS DESTROYED THE EARTH. WHICH IDEA DO YOU AGREE? WHY?

The topic of whether we are living in a better world than our ancestors used to live seems to be a double-blade sword. Some believe human activities has caused damaging effects to the earth, while others are on the opposite side. They state that human has made the world a more pleasant place. This essay outlines ideas in favor of and against this subject.
Some argue that our lives have been greatly impressed by devastating effects of modern technology. With the growing complexity of the modern word, we are all involved in rigors of daily life. We hardly have time to spend some hours with our family or have a enjoyable warm conversation with our grandmother. Little children no longer live in a big house, where other members of the family, including those children at the same age, live. They no longer have the chance to eat home-cooked meals everyday and enjoy grandfather’s stories at dinnertime. In other words, emotional bond within the family has become loser than
before. Moreover, human has destroyed many forests in order to build farm lands. Many animal species has got extinct and great number of trees has been cut because of human activities. As Forests are an essential part of our the world’s environment; therefore, humanity’s well-being, we have indirectly destroyed our own lives. Another point in keep in mind is air pollution as a byproduct of modern technology. Typical examples of this life-threatening issue are rapidly increasing number of lung cancers and heart diseases in the entire world.
Although some people believe that human has made the face of the world worse, others argue that we are living in a world that our ancestors could not even dream about. Supporters of this viewpoint state that the most important invention of the modern world is the Internet. It has made our life easier and faster. Through the Internet we can buy our daily requirements, we can communicate with others by sending emails in a blink of an eye, and we can share experience with others in the quickest possible way. Opponents of this opinion also argue that airplanes are byproducts of the modern era. With no doubt, nothing can beat the convenience of the plane. We can travel all around the world, meanwhile being served various drinks and foods in a luxurious atmosphere. Hardly is it possible to compare today’s way of living to ancient days.
Drawing conclusion out of the aforementioned arguments, I believe we are living a worse world than before. Stressful environment we are living in, daily involvements that our minds are occupied with, and the high rate of mental diseases are suggestive of the fact the world has not become a better place to live.

You write very well KS. I cannot understand why you cannot differentiate between “human has / humans have” … very strange. That error spoiled you total effort.

Kitos. 8/10

Why cant I use human has…? I want to say humanbeing in its general meaning.
Thanks for your great advices.

Think about it, K! Are you speaking of one solitary human?
What’s the plural of ‘human’.

I’m sure you can work it out.

I mean humanbeing or humankind…
Why is it incorrect to use Human has in the following sentence? This is the same as the topic sentence.

They state that humanS HAVE made the world a more pleasant place

Because there is more than one human.

If you mean ‘humankind’ then you would need to use that.

Humankind has made the world a more pleasant place. (All of humankind - uncountable)
Humans have made the world a more pleasant place. (More than one human)
Human beings have made the world a more pleasant place. (More than one human being… notice that the phrase is two words, not ‘humanbeing’)
