Through the donations of/from the devotees

They were able to build the temple through the donations of/from the devotees.

Should it be “of” or “from”?

I think ‘from’ is better because it explains the origin of the donations - in other words where the donations were from. It would sound better if you said ‘thanks to the donations’ rather than ‘through’.
