(the) Word format

This is a follow up question with regard to this thread
Can I say this sentence (I included the article “the”):

Please offer the catalog files in the Word format for these two items.

You would not normally use the article there because ‘Word’ refers to the type of format (Microsoft Word word processing format).

This is an exagerration and it is not actually this clearly defined, but it may help to think of it as equating to ‘…in this particular format’. Then you will see that ‘…in the this particular format’ doesn’t work.
