the robbing of the bank

[color=red]1-The police knew about the robbing of the bank.
[color=indigo]2-The police had information about the robbing of the bank.

Could these sentences be used if the bank had not been robbed yet and there was merely a plan to rob the bank?

Gratefully,
Navi.

Hi Navi!

Personally, I’d say “the bank robbery” instead of “the robbing of the bank”. I think you have to add something to the sentence in order to specify that the robbery hasn’t happened yet.

The police knew/had information about the bank robbery that the criminals were planning to do.

Hope this helps and let’s see what others think!
