the most important tenses

Hi, for all of you want to have an overview of [color=red]the most important tenses, you should use this page…

I wonder if [color=red]the most important tenses is an appropriate phrase. Wouldn’t it be better to say “the most [color=blue]major tenses”?

“Major” usually does not vary in degree here. I find that rather awkward. When you use “major” like this, you are already contrasting something with the lesser types anyway. If I say the major tenses, you already know I consider the others less important as a group. I don’t see what “more” or “most” contributes.

That said, I find “important” more specific and preferable.

Thank you, Mordant.
