What is the sense of “rather” in this sentence?
What is “stream”?

“rather” = quite, somewhat

“stream” is presumably a mistake for “streams” (small rivers). However, Wikipedia says that these fish “typically inhabit brackish waters of estuaries and mangroves” and “can also be found in the open ocean as well as far upstream in fresh water”. Only the last of those habitats could be called a “stream”.
