Thanksgiving in the U.S

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

In 1952, humor columnist Art Buchwald published a column in the Paris edition of the New York Herald Tribune to explain the American holiday to the French. He republished the same column every Thanksgiving for the next 55 years, changing only the introduction to reflect current events.

Besides “explaining“ the holiday, it also illustrates some pitfalls of literal translations.

It is interesting that the story begins with the introduction of a lady whose first name is Paris :wink:
