Does to burn the candle at both ends mean that one has to work day and night to make up for what one has lost so easily?

Not necessarily to make up for anything, and not necessarily ‘working’ but staying up until very late in the night and then getting up very early in the morning.

An uncountable number of thanks for you all there and your answers!
